Change of Path

“Know your why and make it meaningful.”

It has been over a week since I sat down and write a new blogpost. You see, I recently got job. I’m more than thankful that I finally landed a job after a month of looking for one. And guess what, I’m an ABM (Accountancy, Business, and Management) Instructor! It’s a path that I took which made a lot of people shock. So, what’s with the change of path?

Here's the thing. The path towards your destination will never be just a straight road, there'll be left and rights, and sometimes you'll take turns. I always believe that there are a lot of paths toward your destination and no matter where you bring yourself, it is where you need to be. You were there for a reason.

I want to learn more

On my Trimester Update 01: Self Discovery, I talked about how realized just after my graduation that I want to learn more. I don’t want to stop with a bachelor degree, I want to take on the master and doctorate level. However, I’ve already set goals when and where I’m going to do that. Now, I want to work.

It’s my first time in teaching, in order to teach my students well, I have to review everything about their lessons. I have to be proactive and appear as someone who master the lecture. By doing that, I’m learning. Despite of my academic awards, I’m learning now more than I did when I was in college. This is exactly what I want.

I want to do what’s valuable

I recently watched an inspiring TedTalk of Benjamin Todd. He said that despite of all these people proclaiming to “follow your passion”, he strongly disagrees because somehow it won’t fulfill you. What he’s suggesting is to find a job that is worthy and is valuable. A job that will make an impact to others.

Then, I realized that’s what I’m doing now. My job is valuable enough to make an impact to others, to my students. I’m able to teach them, they’re able to learn from me. It’s worthy and valuable.

I want to make an impact in someone’s life

I love watching TedTalk and this one will be related to Megan Young’s TedTalk. She once said that, she never wanted to be super famous and huge. All she wanted was to make a positive impact in someone’s life and be remembered by. This has been my goal ever since I became passionate with blogging, I wanted to educate others about personal development and simply how to be a better person. I want to be a good influence.

And this path I chose is an opportunity for me to influence others, my students. My students may be three-four years younger than me, I still do believe that I can somehow make an impact in their lives and will serve as a good influence that they will look up for.

I want to explore and discover myself more

I’ve been in this job for two weeks now and I’ve already discovered a lot about myself. It’s my first job and I believe that there will be more self changes and discovery I’ll be facing in the future. And I’m excited to finally find my true self and be able to do what I really want based on who I really am. I don’t know if that made sense, but it’s how it is.

However, I want to point out that we are different in our own way. This is the path that I chose and all I want is for you to find inspiration on this sudden change of path that I walked in.

  1. Yes, sometimes the change in our path will help us to be more successful and happy. However sometimes it also creates some pressure, do you think so?

    1. That is so true! I believe that we run through different and unique journeys in life. For me, I don't feel any pressure yet, and so far I'm happy that I took this path.

  2. I definitely feel like this is an "each to their own" type of case. Some paths work for some, other paths for other people. For me following my passion is important. It took many years to realise I'm not someone who can "work" for another being. Not so much a control thing but in terms of where I need to be and doing (which is being creative daily) to be happy. Life would be so much easier if I could get on that 9-5 grind but it just doesn't work for me. That said I've never found myself in a position where I've been giving something back either so perhaps that is key.

    1. I couldn't agree more with you Sonia. We are all different in our own way, and we run in different and unique paths. Since this is my first job, it made me realized that I want to explore more that's why I took a different path in my career. And I sincerely appreciate your honesty here.

  9. Congrats to your new job/path!! I loved to read your article so much! I don't agree with this particular TEDTalk though. Everything made with love IS valuable and I don't think ignoring our passions is the way to go. It's not easy to find a dream job, not at all. I have experience in that, but spending most of my life by doing something I don't love is scary. But you sound like you really enjoy what you do and I wish you all the best in your career.

  17. Congratulations on the job. Sometimes we are led to paths that are not exactly what we have envisioned nor what other people have envisioned for us, but you know what, sometimes that road leads us to where exactly we have to be at the exact time.
