First Month of Working

Good day to all of you, lovely people!

I'm here today writing this post simultaneously, no listings and no additional ideas included. It has been awhile since I sat down and just write down what flows in my mind. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know that at the end of July, I got a job.

At this point, I have been working for a month now. So, how's everything? Hmmm.

Just for a brief background of the story, I recently graduated this year (Trimester Update) and last July, I got a job as an ABM Instructor in high school. Yayy! To be honest, I can still clearly remember the moment I decided to accept this job. I was on my way home, walking at a crosswalk, and I was like "Fads, will you accept this job? State the pros and cons please." then in my mind, while walking, I stated the pros and cons.

Pros:

  • I can express myself more
  • I will learn more
  • I will have the opportunity to influence others
  • I will finally have a job
  • Pretty and clean work environment

Cons:
  • Could've been a better compensation
  • In need of huge adjustments

So obviously, I've stated more pros than cons. Voila! I'm employed! Now let's get into the deep thoughts of working as an instructor as a newly grad. More on: Change of Path.

The struggle of new routine

You see, before I got this job, my morning routine was; wake up and pray, drink a cup of tea, do yoga and meditation, eat a feast for breakfast, take a shower, be socially active online, do some blog works all day, and so on. My morning routine now is; wake up and pray, get ready for work, leave the house w/o eating breakfast, get to school before 7:30am, wait 'til the canteen is open so I can eat breakfast, work 'til 5pm.

Funny to say, but until now, I'm still not used to this routine and as of this moment, I'm thinking how to improve my morning routine or add up some exciting things because I love mornings and I love working, so I don't want to allow this routine ruin my love for mornings and working. Thank goodness, I'm still sane.

The pressure of being in character

I recently told my co-instructor the fact that I pressure myself too much to be in character. A character of me that has to be perfect at being a character. Haha, does that make sense? Okay, like I have to be prepared all the time, like go big or go home. And, I always have to look good and presentable, I should hide my annoyance and anger, and I should always give a smile to everyone.

Although these characteristics are things I've always wanted to achieve, however the pressure is there and sometimes it's hard to not get mad at myself when I accidentally went out of character. I want to release the pressure by being fully committed and comfortable in this kind of person I want to be.

The joy in interacting with my students

Getting to know my students is such a pleasure because I'm a very observant person. I like learning about other people's characteristics to be able to understand them in order to build good relationship. So far, I'm quite open to them, I sometimes make jokes and we tease each other. A month with them is already fun, I can't wait for the next months to be filled with unforgettable memories.

The outcomes of productivity

I honestly love being productive because that's the life I want to lead. Being in this job includes lots of constant to-do-lists, plannings, and preparations. Trying my best to produce at least one blog post while working full-time is tough, but knowing that I can do both makes me really proud of myself. My co-instructor told me once said "It's amazing how you can balance both your passion and your work.". Know that it isn't easy at all, but seeing good outcomes makes every effort worthy and makes me more motivated to do what makes me happy.

Embracing my journey

This is my first job ever and I wouldn't change it for anything, because seeing myself growing in this job makes me happy and grateful for choosing this path. I'm glad I chose this path as the starting point to my dream destination which is a very important step on the road. So I will work hard and enjoy the process.

We're finally at the end of the post and it's 10:05pm as of this moment and tomorrow is Monday. Work again. It was a nice chitchat, it felt like I'm writing a personal journal. What a way of unwinding on a Sunday night. 'Til next time!

  4. Congrats on the job, Fads! Happy monthsary! Hahaha. :D I also like mine even though how difficult it could be at times but I like being challenged so it's okay and I'm grateful that God put me on a path that is aligned on my chosen program when I was in college. Hehe. :)

I had a reporting when I was in 3rd year and my professor told me that I should take up an exam in TESDA so I can be a licensed teacher for SHS. Back then, I never imagined being an instructor but during college, I enjoyed reporting in class and my professor noticed it and even appreciated it. I don't know if I'll be one in the future but let's see. Haha!

    1. Hi, Augustin.

Thank you for saying that. Monthsary talaga? Haha! Awww I'm honestly so happy for you as well, congratulations. I'm sure we all go through that tough pace but know that we are going to get through this.

I truly can relate to you on that, I loved reporting since I got to college. I think, that's a skill in us that describes the fact that we can teach. I hope you'll get to try teaching because based on my experience, it's fun!

    2. Hahaha! I don't celebrate those monthly anniversaries when I was still in a relationship but my workmate greeted me when we were already a month old here at work so I just y'know gave in with the 'Happy Monthsary' thing. Hahaha!

Maybe but I have a goal in mind that if my career here in Essilor won't flourish, I'd try working in abroad and maybe who knows I might consider teaching there. We don't know but I'm hopeful. :)

  9. I really does take a while to adjust to graduating and settling into a work routine. You will learn and grow as a person through each new phase of life, don't be too hard on yourself. You're doing better than you think.
